CRAFTS - Easy Fun & Green

Clove Pomander – This craft is an oldie but a goodie, and it’ll make your house smell wonderful. Take a navel orange, a tangerine, or any other citrus (never tried it with a grapefruit…), tie a length of string around it, and buy a large bag of whole cloves. Check out your local health food store or co-op for bulk cloves. Insert the cloves up to their head into the orange, and repeat until the whole orange is covered. Hang these in closets, pantries, or bathrooms, or put into your clothes drawers to scent your wardrobe.

Popcorn Garland – Stringing popcorn garlands and hanging them on your outside trees will make your neighborhood birds and squirrels very happy. Simply pop a batch of popcorn, thread a medium sized needle with cotton thread, and start stringing! Add raisins or dried cranberries to your garland every so often, or make a pattern with the dried fruit. Hanging these edible garlands onto your Christmas tree gives it an organic look and feel.

Pine Cone Bird Feeder - Remember this? Take a large pine cone, wrap a wire for hanging around the top, smear peanut butter into the crevices, and roll in bird seed. Dried fruit can be added to spice it up a bit. Mount these solidly to a fence so the squirrels don’t run off with it, or hang in front of a window so you get a good show at dinnertime.

Old Rose and Lavender Potpourri

Old Rose and Lavender Potpourri

For hundreds of years, people have invented ways of preserving the fresh fragrance of flowers and herbs to sweeten the indoor air.

Here is a simple, classic potpourri recipe you can try, but don't be afraid to experiment with your own formulas.

Potpourri Recipe
* 1/2 cup rose petals
* 1/2 cup lavender blossoms
* 1/2 cup sweet woodruff
* 1/2 cup pot marjoram leaves and blossoms
* 1/4 cup mint
* 2 teaspoons orange peel
* 2 teaspoons whole cloves
* 1/2 teaspoon crushed cinnamon stick
* 2 drops each of lavender and rose oils
* 1/2 teaspoon powdered orrisroot

Combine the first eight ingredients. Sprinkle the oils and the orrisroot over the dry ingredients and mix well. Place in a covered jar, and stir gently every few days for a month, until the scents have blended and mellowed. Remove the jar's cover to freshen a room, but be sure to replace the cover between times of use. All potpourris need time to recoup their scents. The above recipe will also work well in sachets.

Triple Moon Goddess Sign

The triple moon is a Goddess symbol that represents the Maiden, Mother, and Crone as the waxing, full, and waning moon. It is also associated with feminine energy, mystery and psychic abilities. You often see this symbol on crowns or other head-pieces, particularly worn by High Priestesses.

The Maiden represents enchantment, inception, expansion, the female principle, the promise of new beginnings, youth, excitement, and a carefree erotic aura. The Maiden in Greek Mythology is Persephone - purity - and a representation of new beginnings. Other maiden goddesses include: Brigid, Nimue, among others.

The Mother represents ripeness, fertility, fulfillment, stability, and power. The Mother Goddess in Greek mythology is Demeter, represtning wellspring of life, giving and compassionate. Other mother goddesses include: Aa, Ambika, Ceres, Astarte, Lakshmi.

The Crone represents wisdom, repose, and compassion. The Crone in Greek mythology is Hecate - wise, knowing, a culmination of a lifetime of experience. Crone goddesses include: Hel, Maman Brigitte, Oya, Sedna, Skuld, and others.

These aspects may also represent the cycle of birth, life and death (and rebirth). Neopagans believe that this goddess is the personification of all women everywhere.

How to make a scrying mirror

How to make a scrying mirror:

You may use a 5X7 or 8X10 picture frame. I prefer either a silver
frame or a wooden frame which can be painted black (use a flat black
paint rather than glossy as the glossy paint can be distracting) .
Remove the glass and paint with a glossy black enamel. This will take
several coats. Allow each coat to dry before repainting. Only paint
one side. When the paint is dry, put the glass (with the painted side
on the inside) back in the frame. I like to make a mugwort tea to
wash the mirror but you may use anything but a glass cleaner with
ammonia. I have not tried vinegar as a cleaner but do not think it would hurt.

To Use Mirror:
I like to set 2 black candles, one on each side slightly in back of
mirror. Be sure your room is dark. When looking into the mirror try
not to stare. I try to look beyond or slightly out of focus, you
might try to look slightly above the mirror. Have pen and paper handy
and write down images you see. You might even see letters.

BBQ PULLED CHICKEN THIGH SLIDERS

INGREDIENTS:
6 boneless skinless chicken thighs
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup chicken broth
2 cups smoky barbecue sauce (love Sweet Baby Rays)
12 to 16 mini rolls
12 to 16 mini dill pickles

DIRECTIONS:
In a large high-sided pot, add the chicken, salt and
broth. Cover and bring to a boil, and reduce the heat
and simmer until done, about 20 minutes. Remove from
heat and allow to cool enough to handle. With two forks,
shred the chicken right in the pot, by pulling the pieces
apart. Add the barbecue sauce, reheat the mixture and
reduce the liquid if needed, or add some additional
chicken broth if too dry. Split the rolls and mound
about 1 tablespoon of the chicken on each bottom half;
top with the remaining half. Using a toothpick, secure
a pickle on top and serve warm.

A Talisman for Love

FELT BROACH - SPILLA in FELTRO Pictures, Images and Photos

A Talisman for Love

To make a talisman to draw new love into your life you will need a Moon-drenched night, preferably during a Full Moon, and a needle and thread and some pink or red felt. Sew the felt into a small pouch, and place items magically charged to draw love—love letters, your nail clippings, song lyrics, and love herbs such as vanilla, rue, myrtle, violet, rose, apricot, apple, yarrow, rosemary, thyme, meadowsweet, lemon, dragon’s blood, clove, or dill. A rose or clear quartz crystal may also be added. Sew up the pouch while the light of the Moon washes over it and say: “By my hands the spell is begun; love comes to me through what I have done.” Rededicate the talisman at each Full Moon and carry it with you until you find the love you seek.
