Punk fashion in the 80's

Punk fashion in the 80's

Punk fashion in the 80’s was more of ripped jeans plaid jeans, t-shirt, plaid long sleeved shirts, leather jackets, combat boots and lots of wallet chains, spiked belts and studded wrist cuffs for the punk loving guys. Fish nets and plaid miniskirts with combat boots were all the rag for the girls. Of course the girls of the 80’s loved the tore up jeans and t-shirts and combat boots too. And then there was the hair both genders.
Punk hair fashion of the 80’s took on a whole new role from punk’s inception of the 1970’s death rock era. Non-conformity and angry rebellion were still the anthem of the punk culture and in any other era the 80’s focused on the hair. Where the hair in the 1970 was said to be different, the 1980’s went all out.
Rainbow colored hair like orange, pink, red, purple, blue and yellow were showing up everywhere. Asymmetrical styles were the rage as well as one side shaved and one side long and wild. High spiked Mohawks and liberty spikes were adored. Another version of the spiked Mohawk was the shaved sides and one long strip of hair down the back. Bleached blond hair with black tips topped it all off. Whatever wild and off the wall hair style you could come up with was greeted with great enthusiasm. Shaving of the eyebrows became popular during this era too.
Tattoos of your favorite punk rock band could be found on the hard core punk worshipers. And tattoos of spider webs covered their elbows and hands. Ugly controversial sayings were proudly worn with pride.
Another popular punk culture of the 80’s was body piercings. You could find them anywhere to give shock value such as the nose, eyebrows and lips. Gauged earrings both large and small and a metal bar through the top of the ear were very popular.
Punk fashion in the 80’s made a statement and it engulfed a generation of kids and young adults that wanted to be different than everyone else. Their style stood out and that is exactly what they wanted to accomplish.
